Body Language
Bingo
Body Language Bingo helps guardians (and pros!) learn the subtle cues dogs use to show how they feel — not just what they do.
Each “square” represents a real, observable signal that helps decode emotion, stress, comfort, connection, or conflict.
Members “win” not by completing a board, but by recognising communication earlier, responding with compassion, and deepening your dog’s sense of safety.
Why Body Language Matters

Understanding your dog’s body language is one of the most powerful ways to build connection, confidence, and trust. Dogs communicate with their whole body long before they bark, growl, or pull on the lead. Their eyes, ears, tail, posture, breathing, and even tiny pauses all tell a story about how they’re feeling in the world. When we learn to notice those signals, we begin to hear our dogs long before the big behaviours appear.
Body language matters because it helps you meet your dog’s needs in real time. A quick lip lick might tell you they’re feeling unsure. A slow blink might show you they’re relaxed and comfortable. A small freeze can be an early request for space. These moments are gentle invitations to adjust what you’re doing so your dog feels safer, understood, and supported. When guardians recognise these cues, they can prevent overwhelm and help their dogs feel more confident, even in busy or unpredictable places.
Reading your dog’s signals also reduces frustration on both sides. Many behaviours that guardians worry about — pulling, barking, jumping, “not listening” — often start as tiny signs of discomfort or excitement that go unnoticed. By learning to catch the early signals, you can help your dog long before they feel overwhelmed. This leads to calmer walks, easier training, and fewer “mystery behaviours” that seem to come out of nowhere.
Most importantly, understanding body language strengthens your bond. When your dog realises that you’re paying attention to their feelings — not just their behaviour — they trust you more deeply. They relax more easily around you, check in more, and feel safer exploring the world with you by their side. Body language is your dog’s way of talking. When you learn their language, you build connection that lasts a lifetime.
