Frequently Asked Questions

Because Clarity Builds Confidence — FAQs for You and Your Dog

📍 Where are you based?

Mutts & Mischief is based in Lincolnshire, UK. All services are delivered fully online, allowing guardians from anywhere in the UK (and beyond!) to access professional, welfare-first behaviour support from the comfort of home.

🌍 Do you work with clients outside the UK?

Yes! As long as you have access to Zoom, Skype, or similar platforms, I can work with you wherever you are. I support clients internationally — everything from consultations to classes can be done remotely.

🎓 Are you a qualified dog behaviourist?

Yes. I am a Certified Accredited Behaviourist (KSA) with INTODogs, meaning my work has been independently assessed for both knowledge and practical skills.

Because I’m accredited, guardians may be able to claim for my services through their pet insurance provider.

I also hold a wide range of specialist qualifications covering reactivity, trauma, enrichment, collaborative care, and more. You can view the full list on the Qualifications section of this website.

🌿 What does “holistic education and behaviour” mean?

Holistic behaviour work considers the whole dog — mind, body, and environment.

I work collaboratively with guardians, vets, and allied professionals to explore factors such as health, nutrition, pain, environment, and emotional wellbeing alongside training.

🐾 What types of issues do you help with?

I support a wide range of emotional and behavioural needs, including:

  • Reactivity and fear-based behaviours

  • Separation anxiety

  • Trauma and rescue rehabilitation

  • Emotional regulation and resilience

  • Sensory sensitivities

  • Collaborative care (grooming, vet visits, handling)

  • Puppy foundations and enrichment

💻 How do online consultations work?

All sessions take place via Zoom.

You’ll receive a private meeting link, and I’ll observe your dog through video. This allows your dog to remain relaxed in their familiar environment while we discuss behaviour, create a plan, and review any videos you’ve shared.

♿ Do you offer in-person services?

No — I provide all services remotely.

This setup offers many benefits, including reduced stress for your dog, fewer distractions, and the ability for you to learn and implement strategies in real time within your dog’s natural environment.

🐕 Do you use aversive tools or dominance-based training?

Never.

I follow a Do No Harm, force-free ethos. No shock, prong, or choke collars are ever used or recommended. My work is based on trust, communication, and understanding — helping dogs feel safe, not scared.

🤝 What does “collaborative care” mean?

Collaborative care focuses on helping dogs feel comfortable and confident with everyday handling, vet visits, and grooming.

I use step-by-step, consent-based training to ensure each experience is as stress-free and positive as possible.

🎓 Do you run classes or workshops?

Yes! I host weekly online classes including:

  • All Stars Game Club (relationship-building and real-world skills)

  • The Little Trainers League (fun, kind-hearted learning for children and families)

I also run webinars and speak at conferences on canine behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and inclusive practice.

📚 What books and resources do you offer?

I’ve written a range of dog behaviour and care books, including:

  • Zero to Hero (and Volume 2)

  • Calm Canines

  • Paws on Enrichment

  • Connected Care

  • Just Ask

  • Breaking the Chain

  • The Mischief Journal

  • Pawsitively Creative

  • The Little Trainers League

  • Canine Compass

Many include additional resources such as journals, trackers, and video tutorials.

🤝 Do you collaborate with other professionals?

Yes. I’m the founder of the PPG Lincolnshire Behaviour Team — a multidisciplinary network including vets, behaviourists, trainers, and other professionals.

Collaboration ensures dogs receive truly joined-up, welfare-first care.

💸 Sessions, Pricing & Support

💛 How are sessions charged?

All one-to-one consultations are charged per session, unless booked as part of a package.

Each session includes dedicated time, preparation, and follow-up support.

📅 Do I need to pay before the session?

Yes — all sessions must be paid in advance to secure your booking.

This allows me to prepare fully and reserve dedicated time for you and your dog.

🔁 Is the initial session a one-off fee?

No — the initial session is the first step in your dog’s journey, not a one-time payment for ongoing support.

Some dogs may only need one session, while others benefit from follow-up support depending on their needs.

📦 What’s the difference between single sessions and packages?

  • Single sessions are ideal for targeted support or check-ins

  • Packages provide ongoing, structured support and are often more suitable for more complex behaviour work

🧠 Will I need more than one session?

Every dog is different.

There is no expectation — only guidance based on your dog’s needs. Some families feel confident after one session, while others prefer continued support.

📩 Is support between sessions included?

Follow-up notes are included after sessions.

Additional support between sessions is available as a separate option (Between Session Support), for those who would like ongoing guidance and reassurance.

💬 What is Between Session Support?

This is an optional monthly support service designed to help you when things feel unclear between sessions.

It includes up to 3 personalised email responses per month, offering guidance, reassurance, and direction when needed.

What happens if payment hasn’t been made?

Sessions are only confirmed once payment has been received.

If payment hasn’t been made, the session may be released or rescheduled.

📅 What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations or reschedules can be made up to 48 hours before your session. Please refer to your booking confirmation for full details.

📲 How do I book a session?

You can book directly via the website or contact me via email.

Once booked, you’ll receive confirmation, your Zoom link, and a pre-session questionnaire.
