🌿 Tiny Toxins: Paws Off Plants 🐾(A little series combining my love of plants and pets 🌿🐶)

Cartoon poster with snarling pink skull and dog beside skull plants; text says Tiny Toxins: Paws Off Plants, Plant of the Week.

Today’s tiny check: the Monstera (also called a Swiss Cheese Plant).

Those gorgeous dramatic leaves? Beautiful.

Snack? Not so much šŸ˜…

Monstera contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth and tummy if chewed. For some dogs, this may mean drooling, lip smacking, pawing at the mouth, vomiting, tummy upset, or discomfort.

Before anyone panics — many dogs live happily alongside houseplants and never touch them.

But curious puppies, adolescent dogs, enrichment seekers, stressed dogs, or dogs who explore the world with their mouths may decide to investigate.

🐾 One small thing to do today:

āœ” Have a quick look at where your Monstera lives

āœ” Is it nose-height for a curious explorer?

āœ” Could it be moved, managed, or supervised if needed?

āœ” Offer appropriate enrichment and chewing outlets too

No guilt if this is news to you — most people are never taught about pet-safe plants.

One tiny check. One safer environment 🩵

Got a plant you’d like me to cover next? Pop it in the comments šŸ‘‡
