Todayās tiny check: Peace Lily
Those glossy green leaves and elegant white flowers?
Beautiful.
Snack? Not so much š
Peace lilies contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth and digestive tract if chewed.
For some dogs, this may mean:
š¾ Drooling
š¾ Lip smacking
š¾ Pawing at the mouth
š¾ Vomiting
š¾ Reduced appetite
š¾ Mouth discomfort
Before anyone panics ā many dogs and cats live safely alongside Peace Lilies and never show any interest in them.
But curious puppies, adolescent dogs, enrichment seekers, stressed dogs, and animals who explore with their mouths may decide to investigate.
š¾ One small thing to do today:
ā Check where your Peace Lily lives
ā Is it accessible to a curious nose?
ā If you have a plant-muncher, consider moving it somewhere out of reach
Knowledge isnāt about fear.
Itās about making informed choices for the individuals who share our homes š©µ
Tiny Toxins: Paws Off Plants is a bite-sized series exploring common plants and household items that may be worth a second look when living with pets.
