This Is More Common Than You Think

“They love this food at home, but outside they won’t even look at it!”

That’s useful information.

If a dog who normally LOVES food suddenly can’t eat, we shouldn’t automatically conclude that we need tastier treats.

They may be worried, overwhelmed, highly aroused or simply processing everything happening around them.

Food refusal can be information about how your dog is coping in that moment.

Rather than immediately upgrading from chicken to cheese to sausage to the canine equivalent of a Michelin-starred tasting menu, consider changing the environment too.

Could you add distance?

Move somewhere quieter?

Lower what you’re asking?

Sometimes the answer isn’t better food.

It’s more safety and less pressure. 🩵
